NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
Please be advised that the Marist Hockey Club is holding a special general meeting on Sunday 15th February, 5.00pm at St Joseph’s Parish Centre, Vagues Road, Papanui. The purpose of the meeting is to formally adopt our new constitution prior to reregistering as an incorporated society under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
Our club has been working towards compliance with new legislation affecting incorporated societies. This work has entailed attending forums to understand the new legislation, involvement of legal representatives, officers of the club, along with connecting with CHA.
The new Incorporated Societies Act includes a significant number of changes including how we report, what records we need to keep, how we structure our organisation, the accountability of our Officers, and how we resolve disputes. There are many changes in the new Act. A full list of key changes can be found here https://is-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz/law-changes-for-societies/key-changes/
Should our club wish to remain an Incorporated Society, we must re-register by 5 April 2026. The benefits of being an Incorporated Society include;
Protecting volunteers
Making funding easier
Improves governance
Supports long-term sustainability
Reduces risk
To do so requires us to host a Special Meeting to adopt our new constitution formally prior to submitting for approval.
A copy of our draft new constitution is attached, along with our existing constitution + amendments for your review and feedback. Please provide feedback by 8 February 2026 to maristhockeyclubchch@gmail.com.
Following adoption of the constitution, as part of the re-registration under the act, we will be reviewing associated policies.
In the meantime, should you have any questions, please contact us.
